About Andersonville
Andersonville is a small South Georgia town with a long history and a close‑knit community. Located in Sumter County, we’re about 35 miles from Albany, 65 miles from Macon, 45 miles from Columbus, and just 12 miles from Plains, Ga, home of former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter.
Visitors come from across the country to experience the Andersonville National Historic Site, the National Prisoner of War Museum, the Drummer Boy Civil War Museum, and the annual Historic Civil War Reenactment hosted by the Andersonville Guild. These landmarks and events make our town one of Georgia’s most meaningful places to learn about American history.
With fewer than 300 residents, Andersonville offers a quiet pace, friendly neighbors, and a community with a welcoming spirit.
